Bigger tires need a numerically higher ratio. These recommendations are for Jeep JL or JTs with the 3.6L and 8-speed automatic.
Your engine, transmission, driving style and added weight like rooftop tents or other gear can impact what the right ratio is for your individual rig. Dana 35 gear packages top out at 5.13.

Not sure which rear axle is under your JL? Non-Rubicon JLs came with either a Dana 35 (M200) or a Dana 44 (M220) rear. Call 844-213-4327 or send us a message and we’ll help you confirm it before you order.

01Do I really need to regear for bigger tires?
If you want your Jeep to drive right, yes. Adding larger tires without regearing will cause you to lose 7th and 8th gear. Regearing to a numerically higher ratio restores performance and improves torque delivery to the wheels.
02What comes in a gear package?
Front and rear ring and pinion sets in the ratio you choose, plus matching front and rear master install kits with the components needed to overhaul each ring and pinion setup.
03Do the front and rear need the same ratio?
Yes. Front and rear must run the same ratio. A gear package gets you both in the ratio you pick.
04Which ratio should I run?
Start with the ranges above, then check them with our RPM calculator. Or send us your tire size, axle and transmission and we’ll tell you.
05Can I install gears myself?
Setting up gears takes the right tools and experience. We publish our differential setup specs and break-in procedure so you and your installer start from the right numbers.
06Do I need to reprogram after a regear?
Yes. Until you update the tire size and gear ratio, your Jeep is still calculating speed from the factory setup, so your speedometer reads wrong. The Tazer JL Mini sets both.
07Will 35 spline axles work with my factory locker?
No. 35 spline axle kits require a 35 spline aftermarket locker. If you’re keeping the factory locker, run the 32 spline kit made for your model.
08What’s the warranty?
Ring and pinions: Two Year Limited Warranty. Discovery Series axles: 10 Year Limited Warranty, covering manufacturing defects, breakage, bent axles and twisted splines (bearings and seals are wear items). Driveshafts: Limited Lifetime Warranty for twisted tubing or broken welds. Front axle u-joints: 1 Year. Diff covers, master install kits and bearing & seal kits: 1 Year Limited Warranty.
