Step 1
Pick your ratio
Bigger tires need a numerically higher ratio. These recommendations are for 2016-2023 Tacomas with the 3.5L V6, automatic or manual.
Your engine, transmission, driving style and added weight like rooftop tents or other gear can impact what the right ratio is for your individual rig. Running 33s or 34s with armor, a rack or a trailer? Go 5.29. The 8.75" rear doesn’t come in 4.56, so factory-locker and manual trucks on 31s or 32s go 4.88. V6 manuals leave the factory with 4.30s instead of 3.91s but land on the same picks. Running the 2.7L? Give us a call and we’ll match the ratio to your truck.
Step 2
Find your rear axle
Your rear axle decides which package fits and which ratios it comes in. Each package includes front and rear gear sets and master install kits.

Rear8" (29 spline pinion)
Ratios

✓For automatic Tacomas without the factory locker, V6 or 2.7L
Not sure which rear axle you have? Every manual Tacoma has the 8.75" rear. On an automatic, look for the rear diff lock switch in the overhead console: a switch means the 8.75", no switch means the 8".
Manual without the factory locker? Yours is an open 8.75". Call 844-213-4327 or send us a message with your VIN and we’ll confirm the right kit before you order.
Two-wheel drive? Same rear axles as the 4x4, and you only need the rear gear set and its install kit.
Aftermarket locker in an 8" rear? Call us for the right bearing kit, or order the 8" Rear Aftermarket Locker Package.
Adding a rear locker with your gears? Order the aftermarket locker package. The open carrier package’s bearing kit is sized for the factory carrier. Call us about the locker.
Need an Individual Gear Set?
Front and rear must match, so order the ratio you run at the other end.
Ring and pinion sets
Each gear set needs its own install kit. Add the matching master install kit for that axle. Gear packages already include them.

Why Revolution
Same part number. Same gear. Every time.
The No Re-Box Promise
Every ring and pinion set we sell is ours. We do not take someone else’s gears and put them in our boxes. Order the same part number twice, and you get the same gear twice.
Matched Packages
We built gear packages for popular setups so you skip the guesswork of matching gear sets to the right bearing kits.
Veteran Owned
We proudly remain a second-generation family and veteran owned company.

We publish our differential setup specs so you and your installer start from the right numbers. Setup specs
Quick answers
Regear questions
The things Tacoma owners ask us most.
01Do I really need to regear for bigger tires?
If you want your Tacoma to drive right, yes. Bigger tires on factory gears cost you power, and the 6-speed automatic ends up hunting between gears. Regearing to a numerically higher ratio restores performance and improves torque delivery to the wheels.
02What comes in a gear package?
Front and rear ring and pinion sets in the ratio you choose, plus master install kits with all the components needed to overhaul each ring and pinion setup.
03Do the front and rear need the same ratio?
Yes. Front and rear must run the same ratio. A gear package gets you both in the ratio you pick.
04How do I know which rear axle I have?
Every manual Tacoma has the 8.75" rear, with or without the locker. Automatics with the factory rear locker have the 8.75" too, and every other automatic, including the 2.7L, has the 8". On an automatic, a rear diff lock switch in the overhead console means the 8.75". Skip the axle code on the door sticker: on 2016-2023 Tacomas it doesn’t always match the axle. Not sure? Send us a message with your VIN.
05Can I get 4.56 in the 8.75" rear?
No. On the 8.75" rear, run 4.88 on 31s through 34s, and 5.29 with added weight or on 35s through 37s.
06Which front gear set fits my Tacoma?
Every 2016-2023 Tacoma left the factory with 3.91 or 4.30 gears, so the front diff uses the 3.91-and-up carrier, which takes our thin 8" IFS gear set. Thick gear sets are built for 3.73-and-down carriers and don’t fit a stock 2016-2023 front.
07What’s the warranty?
Ring and pinions: 2 Year Limited Warranty. Master install kits: 1 Year Limited Warranty. Full details on our warranty page.
